A rich businessman Adrian Doria wakes up in a hotel room only to find the dead body of his lover mysteriously lying in the bathroom. He hires an elite veteran lawyer Virginia Goodman to fight his case and the story is just about that one day of conversation between Adrian and Virginia unfolding mysteries and truths. Julia who is suffering from degenerative sight problems finds her sister hanged to death in the basement. Julia however, refuses to believe it’s a suicide and smells murder. What follows is a series of investigations, suspicion and doubts. Julia’s lack of sight doesn’t help her in making the world believe in her intuition either.
Why watch it: Actor Belen Rueda playing Julia brings out the character so beautifully. The ups and downs of the investigations and the final reveal will make it worth your time. If you’re looking for Spanish mystery movies with a grasping plot, go for Julia’s Eyes.

4. The Body (El Cuerpo-2012)
Another Orion Paulo gem of a Spanish thriller that would give you chills at night! El Cuerpo or The Body is literally about a missing body from a morgue and the whole mystery behind it. Once the plot is unveiled, there are more -layers than you can imagine. Actor Belen Rueda plays Mayka Villeverde, a femme fatale whose body goes missing! Hugo Silva, Hose Coronado and Aura Garrido give smashing performances.

5. Perdida-2018
A policewoman Pipa (Luisana Lopilato) reopens a file after many years to search for her childhood missing friend in Patagonia. And in that process, she finds herself coming closer to danger. Perdida is a typical mystery quest that would keep the audience hooked with its twists, reveals and the whole “find the missing girl theme”. The storytelling is excellent with a smooth screenplay and crisp editing.
Why watch it: Luisana Lopilato as Pipa is a delight to watch. And the way she unfolds the story with each step is just good enough to keep you glued.

6. The Hidden Face (La Cora Occulta-2011)
La Cora Occulta is one of the Spanish mystery movies with a very unique plot. An aspiring orchestra conductor Adrien who is already shattered by his breakup suddenly gets the news of his girlfriend Belen’s disappearance. Obviously there are questions and doubts but that’s not the mysterious part. There are weird things happening around Adrien and the nature of Belen’s disappearance is beyond inexplicable.
Why watch it: The film has one of the most interesting reveals and an unpredictable end.

7. The Chalk Line (Jaula-2021)
Although it may traverse between both thriller and horror genres, The Chalk Line is definitely one of those Spanish mystery movies that check all the boxes of a spine-chilling film. A couple Paula and Simon find a girl wandering off the streets and bring her to their lives. They are both very loving and try to extend their love towards the lonely unfortunate girl. However, the truth is far more complex than they anticipate. Director Ignacio Tatay successfully creates an eerie yet engaging movie that would make you want to watch it till the end.
Why watch it: The chilling effects of the girl’s actions and the psychological angle are portrayed masterfully.

8. The Occupant (Hogar-2020)
Javier Munoz (Javier Gutierrez) is a successful business executive who suddenly decides to leave his house due to reasons unknown. There are many mysterious elements in The occupant that disclose one by one over the span of 1 hour 43 minutes. If you’re looking for Spanish thriller movies with some grey elements, this is the film for you.
Why watch it: As usual Javier Gutierrez stuns with his performance. Moreover, the uneasy and grey areas in the story are what make the film worth watching.

9. God’s Crooked Lines (Los Renglones Des Torcidos De Dios)
Here comes another smashing Spanish thriller by Oriol Paolo. If you’re a fan of nerve-wracking thrillers with staggering twists and turns, you can safely take a bet on Oriol Paolo. Some of the best Spanish mystery movies have been written and directed by him. Alice (Barbara Lenie) is a private investigator who fakes her condition to check into a psychiatric ward to find out about a mysterious death of an inmate. But as time and luck would have it, things turn out ugly, dark and complex pretty soon.
Why watch it: The psychological elements woven into the story make it more interesting to watch. At one point you would be left puzzled and impatient!

10. Boy Missing (Secuestro 2016)
Patricia (Blanca Portillo) is a well-known lawyer. Her boy Victor goes missing one day and when he’s found, there is absolutely nothing that the police can find out about the kidnapping. Voctor being deaf and mute can’t speak or reveal anything himself either. That’s when Patricia decides to set out on her own quest. Secuestro is a very gripping Spanish thriller film written by Oriol Paolo and Lara Sendim and directed by Mar Targarone.
